Afrobeats Queen, Tiwa Savage has recounted how she suffered heavy backlash in the early days of her career because of her fashion sense.

Tiwa disclosed that she was heavily criticised over her “sexy” fashion style, and her risky lyrics in songs.

The 44-year-old mother of one stated this in a recent interview with Kiss FM, UK, as she compared her situation to that of her younger colleague, Ayra Starr who is renowned for her skimpy short skirts.

Tiwa stated that she loves the Mavins signee because she is very genuine and when she sees people criticise the ‘Rush’ hitmaker for her short dresses, she feels like telling her to make it shorter.

She said:

“I love Ayra [Starr]. I’m obsessed with her. She’s amazing and genuine, too. It makes me emotional because when I started, I got criticised a lot for dressing too sexy and my lyrics being too risky.

“So, seeing someone, Ayra now…If I see her wearing the short skirts as they [critics] say, I’m like, ‘Make it shorter.’ And she looks amazing, she’s extremely talented. Yeah, she’s a star.”
