Alien is a uniquely terrifying science-fiction franchise, with Fede Álvarez’s upcoming movie Alien: Romulus next in line to show a group of characters being hunted down by a Xenomorph ― but next year’s film should move away from one 44-year-old tradition that’s been present in most Alien movies. Already slated to be a soft reboot of the series, Alien: Romulus has the chance to rethink certain elements of the original sci-fi horror, going in a different direction than earlier installments.
