Where I Got My Stage Name – Shallipopi Reveals
The Nigerian singer, Crown Uzama, known as Shallipopi, shared how he chose his stage name.
He revealed in a recent interview with British media personality Madame Joyce that he initially tried using his birth name, Crown, and nicknames like Drip Face.
However, he stumbled upon his unique stage name while growing up. Shallipopi was inspired by the 1994 Chinese kung fu comedy film, “Shaolin Popey.”
He explained that his mom bought a Tom And Jerry CD for them, but it turned out to be the movie Shaolin Popey when they played it in their DVD player, and the name stuck with him since then.
In his words;
“I was looking for [stage] name, so I was like let me coin something from the movie Shaolin Popey, that’s how I came up with my nickname.”
