War of the Worlds season 2 upped the stakes for the bleak sci-fi re-imagining and introduced new elements that carried over into the next season. Premiering in 2019, the series took the basic framework of author H.G. Wells’ legendary book and adapted it for a modern audience with plenty of new sci-fi twists. Set on present-day Earth, the show chronicles the survivors of a deadly alien attack that wipes out most of human civilization. As season 2 proved, the story was so much more complicated than simple invaders from another planet, and the major changes actually improved aspects of Wells’ well-told tale.
