While the Trinity Killer is often called Dexter’s best antagonist, the most complex and compelling villain in the series arrived years earlier. Dexter faced his fair share of formidable foes over the years, but none of these villains gained the popularity of the infamous Trinity Killer. Since Dexter himself was a serial killer, the show needed to make his enemies particularly nefarious to keep viewers on the title character’s side. Dexter undeniably succeeded in this endeavor when season 4 introduced the deeply unsettling Arthur Mitchell, a mild-mannered suburbanite who challenged Dexter more than ever before. Despite this, though, Arthur was never the show’s best villain.
