THIS IS SERIOUS! FUTA Students Protests After EFCC Night Raid
Students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, have condemned the raid carried out at their off-campus hostels in the early hours of Wednesday by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The anti-graft officials stormed the Road Block axis in Orita Obele, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, at about 2 am.
The students claimed they at first thought the EFCC officials, who allegedly forced their way into their rooms, were kidnappers.
Some of the lodges raided by EFCC officials include Adonai Lodge, Celebrity Lodge, and Peace Apartment, among others.
The Student Union of FUTA condemned the raid, noting that it was carried out at midnight.
FUTA Students Union President, Oluwasoromidayo Olayemi, told DAILY POST:
“We regret to inform you of an ugly incident that happened within our school off-campus community. At 3 am on February 14, 2024, some agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) broke into more than three school lodges in the South Gate community and made unlawful arrests of our students, destroyed properties, molested a female student, and inhumanely inflicted injuries on some other students.”
He noted that the timing of the raid contradicted an earlier directive by the chairman of EFCC on November 1, 2023, that “sting operations at night be stopped in all the Commands of the EFCC.”
