Well before its series finale, The Office co-creator Ricky Gervais predicted that Steve Carell’s exit from the American version of the sitcom would kill its success. Gervais, who also played the lead character David Brent in the British BBC series of the same name, created the workplace mockumentary premise before it was adapted into the American rendition that has since built a seemingly everlasting legacy as a cult classic comedy sitcom. The American version of The Office had a fair share in common with its predecessor but its spectacular cast of characters and fierce following led it to secure an impressive nine seasons and a permanent place in popular culture.
