The Matrix movie with the highest Rotten Tomatoes score somehow isn’t the 1999 original. It’s almost easy to forget what an epoch-defining moment the original Matrix was when it hit theaters in 1999. The movie’s mix of action, cyberpunk and philosophy blew the collective minds of audiences and critics, and while some elements have aged badly, it’s still a classic. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of the subsequent Matrix movie franchise, with each of the three sequels proving disappointing in different ways.
