The Conners’ Original Roseanne Replacement Plan Would Have Failed

While The Conners was originally set to replace Roseanne’s heroine with one of her family members, it is a good thing that the series didn’t follow this path. The Roseanne revival seemed too big to fail. Throughout the ‘90s, Roseanne was one of the most successful sitcoms on television. A fun, surprisingly poignant look at working-class life in middle America, Roseanne followed the story of its eponymous hard-working heroine and her family of unruly but sweet kids. Admittedly, Roseanne season 9’s disastrous reception soured the show’s critical reputation but, for the most part, the series was seen as a classic TV comedy.
