Sigourney Weaver’s New Show Directly Reverses Her Bizarre 14-Year-Old Avatar 2 Casting Criticisms

Sigourney Weaver’s role in Avatar: The Way of Water raised eyebrows given that she was playing a 14-year-old girl, but the actor’s new role goes in entirely the opposite direction. In 2009’s Avatar, Weaver played Dr. Grace Augustine, an exobiologist and the head of the Avatar Program who joins Jake Sully on his mission to help the Na’vi fight back against the humans. After advocating for peaceful relations with the Na’vi, Grace is shot and dies after a failed attempt to have the Tree of Souls transfer Grace into her avatar. Nevertheless, Weaver returns in 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, but she plays a different character.
