While Riverdale’s surprising ending was almost even wilder, the original plan would have been a significantly worse betrayal of the show’s heroes than what the creators went with in the end. Riverdale was a tricky show to wrap up since the series was infamously messy throughout its seven seasons. Pitched as a dark take on the Archie comics universe, Riverdale’s first season was a small-town murder mystery crossed with a teen soap opera. Campy, moody, and undeniably a little ludicrous, the show soon went off the rails with subsequent seasons. Riverdale season 2 was a full-on slasher story, while season 3 brought in supernatural elements.
