Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, has opened up on the only regret he has during his footballing days.

The ex-Nigerian international said what he deeply regrets is not signing for Real Madrid after his exit from Ajax.

The 53-year-old tactician revealed that before he joined Betis after he left Ajax he close to signing with Real Madrid, but the transfer ultimately did not materialize.

Speaking during an interview on Brila FM, the former player said the current Real Madrid is different from the one he knew about 25 years ago when he was still playing.

According to him, the Los Blancos were struggling with finances at the time and find it difficult to reach an agreement with Ajax for his transfer.

He said;

“My only regret is not signing for Real Madrid. The Real Madrid you know now is different from 25 years ago. They were struggling with money and couldn’t reach an agreement with Ajax.

I had already agreed on personal terms with Madrid and spoken with Coach Capello. I had a pre-contract, but Real Madrid and Ajax couldn’t agree on the transfer fee.”
