Prometheus Is A Fitting Alien Prequel, But Not For Ridley Scott’s Movie

Delving into the wider lore around Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror Alien was a promising idea for prequel Prometheus – but the 2012 movie has become notorious for letting down its ambitious premise, and instead clashing and muddying the knife-edge tension and mystery of the original. That doesn’t mean Prometheus, a mismatch for the atmospheric horror of the Sigourney Weaver-led original despite also being directed by Scott, doesn’t have its own place in the Alien movies’ canon, though. Instead, the more ambitious and lore-heavy Prometheus and its sequel can be seen as complementing a very different film in the Alien franchise.
