Police Neutralise Two Notorious Bandits In Benue (DETAILS)
The Benue State Police Command has announced the neutralization of two notorious bandits in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, along with the recovery of arms.
According to a statement released on Wednesday in Makurdi by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sewuese Anene, the Police Command received intelligence regarding the regrouping of bandits at De-Mtsa village in Katsina-Ala for illicit activities.
In response, a team from Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF), led by ASP Felix Nomiyugh, swiftly engaged the bandits in a heavy gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of two bandits.
Anene stated that during the encounter, two bandits sustained gunshot wounds and were confirmed dead at the hospital, while one was arrested. The remaining bandits managed to escape with injuries but are currently being pursued by law enforcement operatives.
Among the exhibits recovered from the scene were one type 06 Rifle, three AK-47 magazines loaded with 7.6mm ammunition, 80 other ammunition, camouflage uniforms, and assorted phones.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emmanuel Adesina, commended the bravery of the officers involved in the operation, urging them to continue confronting criminals head-on.
He also called on the residents of the state to support the Police by providing useful and timely information.
The neutralized bandits are believed to be members of the notorious gang led by Terwase Akwaza, also known as Ghana, who was previously killed in a similar operation.
The gang, prior to their demise, wreaked havoc in Abaji, Tor Donga, and other neighboring villages in Katsina-Ala.
Despite joint security operations in the area and the elimination of Ghana, Katsina-Ala, Logo, and Ukum LGAs continue to grapple with persistent bandit activities spanning over a decade.
