Netflix’s One Piece Unlikely To Unlock New WGA Residuals Despite Big Success
An analysis of the viewership performance for One Piece on Netflix reveals the popular live-action anime adaptation may not unlock the WGA’s new residuals despite its success. In a new agreement between the WGA and AMPTP studios for streaming residuals, it’s stated that a series must be viewed by at least 20% of domestic subscribers in the first 90 days to be eligible. This means a US-based series on Netflix needs to get over 13 million views for its writers to qualify for residual payments.
