Man Arraigned For Allegedly Killing Brother’s Wife With Axe In Ebonyi
Moses Nweze, a 61-year-old man, has been charged by the Ebonyi State Police for the alleged murder of his elder brother’s wife, Mrs. Mary Nwomege, on February 24, 2024.
Nweze allegedly struck Mrs. Nwomege on the head with an axe while she was cooking, resulting in her death.
The charge against him stated that he unlawfully caused her death, an offense punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Law Cap 33 Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria 2009.
During his arraignment at an Abakaliki Magistrate Court, the Presiding Magistrate, Lilian Ogodo, ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.
Nweze was remanded in custody at the Abakaliki Correctional Service, and the case file was forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for further action.
Chinasa Nwomege, the victim’s daughter, recounted the tragic incident, stating that she witnessed her uncle striking her mother with an axe. She expressed the family’s desire for justice for her slain mother.
