Labourer Gets 12 Strokes Of Cane For Stealing Wallet
A 21-year-old labourer, Shuaibu Haruna, received a sentence of 12 strokes of the cane by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing a wallet.
Haruna, a resident of Badiko, Kaduna, pleaded guilty to the theft charge. The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted leniency considering Haruna’s admission of guilt and urged him to abstain from criminal activities in the future.
The incident occurred when Haruna stole a wallet containing N45,000 and an ATM card, among other items, from Mr. Williams Ezekiel of Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna.
Haruna was apprehended and handed over to the police following a tip-off from a member of the public.
The Prosecutor, Chidi Leo, noted that the offence violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
