Karen Allen has confessed that she felt “disappointed” by Marion Ravenwood’s reduced role in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and her point about the disservice to her character is more than valid. After Indy and Marion got married at the end of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Dial of Destiny reveals that they got separated when their son was killed in action in the Vietnam War. This revelation undoes Indy’s happy ending from the previous movie, seemingly just to keep Marion out of the story until her too-little-too-late cameo appearance in the final scene. An icon like Marion deserved much more respectful treatment.
