JUST IN : Court Jails Three Internet Fraudsters In Kaduna
Justice A.A. Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court has handed down convictions and various jail terms to three individuals for internet-related fraud.
The convicted individuals, Ogochukwu Mitchel Emmanuel Ijeh, Mohammed Kabir Bello, and Sunday Simon, pleaded guilty to one-count charges brought by the Kaduna State Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
As per the charges, Ijeh falsely presented himself on Facebook as Dave Brandon, a UN Military Base medical doctor, engaging in a romantic relationship with Andrea Kadur.
Bello, in December 2023, fraudulently induced Rashida Salman by sending a fake bank transaction debit alert, leading to an offense of cheating.
Simon, charged with impersonation in April 2023, posed as American actor Ryan Eggold on Facebook, deceiving Garri Kalish into a romantic relationship and cheating her of $800.
All three convicts pleaded guilty, and based on their pleas, the prosecution counsel, K.S. Ogunlade, urged the court to convict and sentence them accordingly.
Subsequently, Justice Isiaka sentenced Ijeh, Simon, and Bello to two years of imprisonment, offering Ijeh and Simon the option of a fine of N150,000 and Bello the option of a fine of N200,000.
