HEART WRECKING!!!! Fire Engulfs 19 Shops, Destroys 1,900 Bags Of Grains In Adamawa
On January 20, 2024, a fire wreaked havoc on a major grain market in Gombi, Adamawa State, destroying 19 shops and 1,900 bags of assorted grains.
The Secretary of Gombi Market Union, Mallam Umar Nyalli, attributed the incident to an unknown smoker who discarded a burning cigarette near waste materials close to the shops.
The affected businesses, encompassing maize, groundnuts, guinea corn, sesame seeds, beans, and tamarin fruits, suffered significant losses. Mallam Nyalli appealed for government intervention.
Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta expressed condolences during her visit, emphasizing the colossal loss to shop owners and the broader impact on the state’s revenue.
This incident follows a recent wildfire near the Federal College of Education in Yola, which destroyed 10 shops about two weeks earlier.
