Elysium 2: 10 Years Later, Matt Damon’s Wrongly Maligned Sci-Fi Movie Still Needs A Sequel

Ten years after the original Elysium premiered, Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi blockbuster deserves a modern sequel. Elysium was the South African director’s follow-up to the critically acclaimed District 9, which centered on the militarized confinement of a group of aliens that crashed on Earth in a fictional 1982. Elysium pits humans against each other in a futuristic tale of class structure in which the wealthy reside on a luxurious space station while the poor live in squalor on a post-apocalyptic Earth. What once seemed like a far-off premise is now increasingly plausible as efforts to venture into off-planet human living have turned from fiction into reality.
