EFCC Releases Sadiya Umar-Farouq, Asks Ex-minister To Return Today
Sadiya Umar Farouq, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, was released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after an extensive interrogation regarding alleged corruption involving N37.1 billion social intervention funds during her tenure.
She was allowed to go home at night but is expected to return for further questioning on Tuesday to clarify various flagged issues from the Commission’s preliminary investigations.
The EFCC’s ongoing probe centers on the alleged laundering of N37.1 billion by officials from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development under Sadiya Umar Farouq’s leadership as the minister.
The Commission had previously interrogated Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator and CEO of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).
She was detained after the EFCC raided NSIPA’s office in Abuja and released on bail the following day.
