DS9’s Ro Laren Plan Would Have Radically Changed Star Trek & Picard Season 3
If Michelle Forbes’ Ro Laren had joined the cast of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, then the course of franchise history and her role in Star Trek: Picard season 3 would have been radically different. When DS9 was being developed as the first spinoff from the hugely popular Star Trek: The Next Generation, it was thought that Ensign Ro Laren could receive a promotion to full-time regular on the show. The show’s “bible” as reprinted in The Making of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine reveals that Ro would have been promoted to Lieutenant, after she requested a posting to DS9 in the wake of the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor.
