The movie references both Ted Kord and Dan Garrett, the first two Blue Beetles, but keeps the focus on Jaime Reyes’ journey as the new Blue Beetle. However, Ted Kord’s legacy plays a prominent role, with his daughter helping Jaime and his family, showing them Ted’s secret layer, and using his superhero gadgets. The end of the movie also sets up more for the lost hero in the future, should Gunn choose to pursue this cliffhanger in the future.
