Black Friday/Cyber Monday FAQs
If you are new to Black Friday as it relates to web hosting, we’ve answered some frequently asked questions below.
What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. Traditionally, it was a day that department stores offered big sales. It was a way to jump-start the holiday shopping season. The hosting industry has always provided big sign-up discounts, so they’ve used Black Friday to offer even bigger sales.
What are Cyber Monday and Small Business Saturday?
Cyber Monday started back in 2005 as a kind of internet-only Black Friday that occurs the Monday after Thanksgiving. Small Business Saturday started in 2010 as a way to encourage people to shop at their local brick-and-mortar businesses. It is on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. You can usually find B2B special deals on these days. Check out our Small Business Saturday page for more deals.
When is Black Friday this year?
The three shopping days follow on the heels of Thanksgiving in the US:
- Nov 29th: Black Friday
- Nov 30th: Small Business Saturday
- Dec 2nd: Cyber Monday
What if I miss Black Friday?
There’s always next year. But you don’t need to wait. The hosting industry is extremely competitive and many hosts offer good deals year-round. In general, they aren’t as good as you will find during the Black Friday weekend. There’s no reason to put off starting your website just because you missed the Black Friday deals. But there’s also no reason to miss these Black Friday deals. They are available now via some of the most trusted and most innovative web hosting companies on the market!
Are these Black Friday hosting deals for real?
It can be hard to believe that a host is offering 90% off. But these deals are real. In some cases, the host is depending on you renewing at a higher price. But that doesn’t mean the deal isn’t real. And you can lock-in most of these deals for years.
What if I find I don’t like the host after I sign up?
Most hosts offer a money-back guarantee — usually 30 days. Be sure to check the details of any plan before you sign up — that’s true any time you purchase hosting. We only feature reputable hosts but you do need to be clear about the relationship you are entering into.
How long should I sign up for?
There are two reasons to sign up for a longer contract:
- The per-month price is lower the longer the contract length
- Your per-month price is locked-in for the term of your contract.
The downside is that you are locked into a long contract if you don’t like the host. If this is a concern, check to see if the host offers a prorated refund.
Will I get these deals when I renew the contract?
Generally, no. Renewal prices can be a shock after you get a great Black Friday deal. If that happens, you have the option of switching hosts (Black Friday 2022?) but this can be a hassle. It’s up to you. Many people use Black Friday deals as an inexpensive way to test out web hosting companies. If it works out, the renewal rate might be well worth the cost.
