The prequel follows a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and the events leading to his corruption, as he mentors Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) during the 10th Annual Hunger Games. “The Hanging Tree,” sung by Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, was used to unite the districts of Panem against the capitol, and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes reveals that Lucy Gray was the one who wrote it.
