9 Greatest Diss Tracks In The Nigerian Music Industry – WHICH ONE IS THE HARDEST?

Published

on

As tensions rise among the top names in global music, we delve into some of the most notable diss tracks in Nigerian music history.

From conflicts dating back to the early 90s to recent disputes within the afrobeats genre, here are nine of the most impactful diss tracks in Nigerian music history.

10. Ruggedman – A Word Is Enuff For The 9ice

Ruggedman came out with his full chest to diss 9ice on this track back then, and its definitely one of the Legendary diss song we have in Nigeria music space.

9. Telli Person – Timaya feat. Phyno and Olamide

While “Telli Person” wasn’t aimed at another musician, it set off a trend when Phyno seemingly issued a cautionary message to the then Instagram celebrity, Hushpuppi.

The rift between Phyno and Hushpuppi stemmed from the latter’s accusations of the rapper flaunting counterfeit jewelry. Phyno retaliated in the track.

The song would have been even more relevant had it been released following Hushpuppi’s contentious downfall orchestrated by the FBI.

8. Letter to My Brother – Faze

Consider the stark contrast in personalities and dispositions. When 2Face released “See Me So,” he aimed to reconcile with his estranged Plantashun Boys family.

Yet, Faze’s “Letter to My Brother” demonstrated to 2Face the authentic way to advocate for peace from the depths of one’s heart.

Despite originating from a feud, this song stands as a timeless classic in Nigerian music and merits recognition in any future Nigerian music hall of fame, if such a concept were to materialize.

7. See Me So – 2Face

The Plantashun Boys saga stands out as one of the most significant and controversial conflicts in Nigerian music history.

While intended as a message of moving on from 2Face to his former bandmates Faze and BlackFace, this song ironically became one of the most prominent diss tracks circulated. It subsequently elicited a response from Faze.

It serves as a prime example of how tone and word choice can lead to message misinterpretation. Nonetheless, without this record, we wouldn’t have had Faze’s timeless track “Letter to My Brother.”

6. Distractions – Vector feat. AQ

Undoubtedly, the chronicle of Nigerian beef would be lacking without Vector’s involvement. Interestingly, AQ was unaware of Vector’s intention to craft this track as a diss aimed at fellow rapper Reminisce.

True to form, Vector showcased his prowess as one of the top rappers in the industry, delivering hard-hitting punchlines and trademark wordplay.

5. Wande Coal Ft. Kay Switch – Na Who Born The Maga

Who still remember when this Diss song between Wande Coal & Kelly Handsome was the talk of the whole Industry!

Wande Coal came for Kelly Handsome on this one, although Kelly Handsome responded with “Igwe Kom Kom” too.

4. Wizkid – The Matter

Maybe Wizkid should diss properly like he did when he dropped this jam “The Matter” with Maleek Berry.

These days Wizkid is still rolling with Good guys! But now na them Farouk him dey follow waka!  Instead of Diss track, he uses Twitter!

No doubt! Wizkid was dissing Davido heavily on this track back then! The rivalry has been long time coming..

3. Judas the Rat – Vector

The inception of Vector’s feud with MI can be traced back to Twitter, and many fans regard them as the ultimate authorities in Nigerian Hip Hop.

This perception is understandable, especially when considering that Mode 9 operates primarily in the underground scene. In terms of content quality, the MI and Vector saga offered fans top-notch diss tracks to savor.

Some view it as a strategic move by both rappers for commercial gain, particularly after Vector admitted in an interview that the beef boosted his record sales.

Nevertheless, beefing remains an integral part of Hip Hop culture that continues to evolve, and this feud undoubtedly set a new standard.

2. The Viper – MI

One of the tracks born from the MI versus Vector conflict. Similar to Jay-Z’s “Takeover” aimed at Nas, this song is hailed by numerous experts as the finest diss track ever produced in a studio by a Nigerian artist.

There was considerable anticipation to see how MI would respond to Vector’s challenge, and he certainly delivered!

MI and Vector have since reconciled, even collaborating on this year’s Hennessy Artistry Cypher.

1. Davido – FEM!

When GOAT decide to diss, they diss differently! Davido turn this FEM diss song he did for God knows who, but according to Music analyst them say na Machala him dey follow talk, he turned it to a Mega Hit!
