Unbeknownst to him in 1979, Ridley Scott’s Alien would launch a rich and fascinating sci-fi franchise, but after James Cameron’s iconic action-horror sequel Aliens, David Fincher’s grim Alien 3, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s risky Alien Resurrection, and a few Alien vs. Predator slasher films, his return to the world he’d created with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant ended up retconning many important facets of the Alien movies. Gripped with the notion that the fans had had their fill of the traditional xenomorphs, he was eager to expand his universe with extensive world-building.
