Though the Oscar-winning 1999 movie Saving Private Ryan and the 2001 mini-series Band of Brothers were both spearheaded by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, Band of Brothers is the better WWII project. Based on the book by Stephen Ambrose, who worked as a historical consultant on Saving Private Ryan, the series follows Easy Company as it makes its way from training to D-Day in Normandy and all the way to the end of WWII. Many Band of Brothers actors went on to careers that became huge, including Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, and Damien Lewis, to name just a few.
