Although The Nightmare Before Christmas told a complete story and didn’t leave room for a sequel, it actually set up five spinoff movies that Disney has completely ignored for three decades. Back in 1993, the world of animation was taken by surprise with the release of The Nightmare Before Christmas, directed by Henry Selick with a story by Tim Burton (and wrongly believed to have been directed by Burton). The Nightmare Before Christmas stood out for its stop-motion style as well as for its gothic style and darker themes while still being a family-friendly movie.
