Why I Didn’t Change Super Eagles’ Formation Against Ivory Coast –Jose Peseiro Reveals

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, clarified why he didn’t alter his tactics against Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Despite William Troost-Ekong opening the scoring with a header in the first half, the hosts staged a comeback after the break, securing two goals to win the trophy.

When questioned about the team sitting back and absorbing pressure after taking the lead, Peseiro explained his decision after the game.

In his words;

“When you have a system that you have been using and it has been working, you really don’t want to change it.”

“It is true that I kept to this strategy until we were 2-1 down and then I decided to change it.”

“We conceded goals from some defensive errors and they had a drop in level, against the Ivorians.”
