Student Commits Suicide After Boyfriend Ended Their Relationship In Adamawa

Jamima Shetima Balami, a National Diploma II student in the Mass Communication Department at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in Adamawa State, reportedly ended her life by consuming a toxic substance following a breakup with her boyfriend.

Reports indicate that the deceased, who was undergoing Industrial Training (IT) at Adamawa Television (ATV) in Yola, passed away at her residence in Vinikilang, commonly known as Hayin Gada in the Girei local government area of the state.

The 24-year-old, who was the sole daughter of her father, allegedly took her own life in response to her boyfriend’s request to terminate their relationship. The boyfriend is purportedly a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU).

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that the father of the deceased reported the matter to the police. He said although the matter was reported to the police in two different versions, the police promised to unveil the real cause of death.

“The father of Jamima reported that she committed su*cide by taking substances. The other version had it that she visited her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola, and was told to quit the relationship. Angered by the news of exiting her boyfriend, the deceased took poison.”

The PPRO assured that the police would make public the cause of death as the investigation is still ongoing.
