Rivers Police Return $3000 Extorted by Arrested Officers (DETAILS)
Police officers from the Rivers State Police Command have been arrested for kidnapping and extorting $3,000 from two individuals.
The three officers, including two Assistant Superintendents of Police and an Inspector, will face an orderly room trial and queries as part of internal disciplinary measures.
The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed the incident during a press briefing in Port Harcourt.
The officers abducted the victims in Abia State, took them to Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states, and extorted $3,000 (N4.2 million) from them.
The extorted money has been recovered and returned to the victims. Iringe-Koko emphasized the commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that the officers’ actions violated the law and ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The officers have been issued official queries, and an orderly room trial is scheduled for the inspector.
The public parade of the officers aims to underscore the seriousness with which the command views the matter and to reaffirm its commitment to integrity and professionalism.
