REALLY!!! I Almost Quit Football At The Age Of 21 – Victor Boniface
Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has revealed how he considered retiring from professional footballer at the young age of 21.
Boniface, who now plays as a center forward for German club, Bayern Leverkusen, made the disclosure while speaking with Nigerian football legend, John Obi Mikel on his ‘Obi One’ podcast.
He stated that after signing a contract with Norwegian club, Bodo/Glimt, he got an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury two weeks after, which ruled him out for about 6-7 months.
Boniface added that after winning the league in the following season, he discovered that he had torn his ACL again, leading to consider retiring from professional football.
In his words:
“I didn’t really have a good time in Norway, the weather was unbearable. Two weeks after I signed my contract, I got an ACL injury which ruled me out for about 6-7 months, leading me to miss the under 20 FIFA world cup. I only came back for the remaining 3 league games of the season.
“The following season, after celebrating being a Norwegian football champion, I woke up with a swollen leg in which after an MRI scan, it was discovered that I had torn my ACL again leading me to consider retirement from professional football.”
