Yellowstone’s New 2023 Prequel Will Break Tradition & Fully Test The Franchise’s Future

The Yellowstone prequel Lawmen: Bass Reeves will put the long-term viability of the franchise to the test by breaking a tradition held by all the existing spinoffs of the Western drama. Set in roughly the same era of America’s western expansion as 1883, the new show Lawmen: Bass Reeves will follow the life and times of the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal, the legendary Bass Reeves. Starring David Oyelowo as the eponymous lawman and with a talented cast of noteworthy names in supporting roles, Lawmen: Bass Reeves will provide a new geographical setting for the Yellowstone universe, as a majority of the action is expected to take place in Arkansas.
