Why Gandalf Couldn’t Carry The One Ring In Lord Of The Rings

Frodo was chosen to bring the One Ring to Mordor in The Lord of the Rings, despite Gandalf being far more powerful. Ultimately, this was a significant theme of the series—that strength can be found in surprising places. As a Hobbit, Frodo seemed like the least likely person to be the hero of Middle-earth, especially considering the other members of the Fellowship of the Ring. As a wizard sent to Middle-earth by the gods of The Lord of the Rings, it seemed as if Gandalf would have been far more equipped to take on the arduous task, but there is a significant reason why he refused even to touch the One Ring.
