It has been two years since a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie last raked in $1 billion, which means it’s high time for an upcoming MCU movie release to break that drought. The record-breaking underperformance of The Marvels at the global box office has no doubt left Marvel Studios reeling after what has been a real mixed bag of a year. The solid performance and reception for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been sandwiched between the lukewarm and downright disastrous performances of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania and The Marvels, while Disney+ offered one dud and one mega-hit in short order with Secret Invasion and Loki, respectively.
