HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty depicts the real-life trade of NBA player Jim Chones. Chones, who was a crucial member of the 1979 Lakers team that went on to win an NBA title under the new powerhouse duo of Jerry Buss and Magic Johnson, gets traded to the Washington Bullets where he would spend the remainder of his career. The impressive forward played a significant number of minutes for the 1980-81 Lakers, with a total of 2562 minutes on the court over the 82-game season. Chones played in every single Lakers game that year, making his trade somewhat surprising.
