With so many recent iterations of the Joker, it can be hard to keep track, but Jared Leto’s fleeting tenure as the Crown Prince of Crime in the DCU hanging is left largely without resolution. Suicide Squad was released in 2016 to unfavorable reviews, mostly drawing criticism for its chaotic plot as it struggled to navigate so many unique yet unknown DC characters. Jared Leto’s Joker did not help matters in this regard, as his scenes were choppily integrated in the form of flashbacks and a fleeting appearance as the titular Squad carried out their mission.
