The returns of Squid Game and Alice in Borderland are huge news for Netflix, however, both of these Korean battle royale series have work to do if they want to impress audiences, and in particular, they both have a major problem to overcome. Squid Game took over Netflix in 2021 with its jaw-dropping premise, following a group of down-on-their-luck people who enter a series of deadly games in order to win incredible money. Meanwhile, 2020’s Alice in Borderland found similar popularity, telling the story of a gamer and his friends who find themselves stuck in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, where they must win dangerous games to survive.
