TMNT’s ’90s Cartoon Was Right: Leonardo Doesn’t Need His Sword For Killing

The ‘90s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon is infamous for not allowing the Turtles to actually use their weapons in combat. Instead, the Turtles would simply hold their weapons while punching the bad guys with their fists, something that was most notable with Leonardo, as he had two swords he was almost never allowed to use. For fans more familiar with their gritty origin, this was a major point of frustration, especially at the time, when the cartoon was the only thing close to seeing the Turtles brought to life. However, in the current continuity of TMNT comics, fans are shown – in spectacular fashion – that the ‘90s cartoon was right: Leonardo doesn’t need his swords for killing.
