The New Karate Kid "Multiverse" Explained

Since Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan have been confirmed as the primary cast members of the new Karate Kid movie, it is hard not to wonder if the film is marking the inception of a Karate Kid multiverse. The Karate Kid “Miyagi-verse” began with the first 1984 movie, which spawned two sequels and one spin-off/sequel. However, because of the diminishing returns of each new installment, the movie franchise was halted after 1994’s The Next Karate Kid. In 2010, the Karate Kid remake, which focused on kung fu, restarted the franchise but failed to achieve the same level of success as the original film.
