Star Wars Has a New Answer for Why Its Droids Aren’t Slaves

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Dark Droids #1 While Star Wars fans never really gave it much thought initially, it has come to their attention that the way droids are used and treated is a bit too similar to slavery, if not slavery outright. It’s been established that droids are sentient, as they have the ability to feel emotion and create independent thoughts. Yet they are treated like common utilities, and traded/sold between organics like any other piece of property. This has created some discord in the fandom, and even among in-world characters, as the ethical dilemma of owning sentient creatures – in this case, droids – is becoming increasingly evident with every addition to Star Wars lore. However, in the latest addition, Star Wars reveals that it has a new answer for why its droids actually are not slaves after all (at least, most of them).
