Star Trek DS9 Dropped A Dax And Sisko Season 1 Love Story

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine teased, then swiftly dropped a potentially groundbreaking love story between Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) and Lt. Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell). In DS9‘s pilot, Benjamin meets Jadzia who has succeeded his mentor Curzon as host of the Daz symbiont, noting that it “will take some getting used to.” Avery Brooks clearly plays the line as if Sisko is attracted to Jadzia, but this is never explored in any great detail. In fact, two episodes later in “A Man Apart”, DS9 spends 45 minutes establishing the boundaries for Sisko and Dax’s friendship which feels like a missed opportunity in retrospect.
