Ever since Netflix announced that a Scott Pilgrim anime was in the works, there has been a lot of talk of whether the original cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World would return and if it will follow the source material — and, much to the delight of fans of the cult franchise, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is delivering on both fronts. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World revolved around its titular meek-mannered protagonist as he attempted to woo Ramona Flowers by battling all of her seven exes. With a memorable rock soundtrack and over-the-top action, the film gained a loyal fanbase. Best described as a musical action rom-com, it has aged well with sarcastic jabs on genre clichés like love at first sight and the manic pixie dream girl archetype.
