After the release of Disney and Pixar’s Elemental, which had a rocky start, the studio’s next film, Elio can avoid a major marketing flaw with ease. Elemental saw an abysmal opening box office, reaching only $29.6 million against a $200 million budget (via Box Office Mojo). While this doesn’t point to a poor film overall, it raises hesitation about Pixar’s upcoming movie Elio. The animated feature is a sci-fi adventure story written and directed by Pixar veteran Adrian Molina, who worked on Coco, Lightyear, and Luca. Being Molina’s solo directorial debut, Elio could offer a fresh perspective that audiences may find compelling.
