The Netflix thriller Only Mine claims to be based on a true story, but how much of the movie is actually taken from real life? Released initially in 2019 as a video-on-demand exclusive, Only Mine eventually found its way to Netflix where the low-budget indie film gained a much larger audience. The film follows a young woman named Julie whose life begins to unravel as her police officer boyfriend David becomes increasingly possessive of her. While it is a common thriller and horror trope to label a film as “based on a true story”, the shocking realism of Only Mine made that claim all the more believable.
