High School Musical: The Musical: The Series showrunner Tim Federle explains why it’s better that Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale did not reprise their original roles in the final season. Returning to Disney+ with eight farewell episodes, HSMTMTS season 4 prominently includes a storyline where the show’s main characters are extras in High School Musical 4: The Movie. This allows for appearances from Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and others, all of whom featured as their characters from the trilogy. There was even speculation that Efron, Hudgens, and Tisdale would respectively be back as Troy, Gabriella, and Sharpay as surprise cameos. But that didn’t come to pass.
