Foundation’s Future Exploration Of Demerzel’s History Teased By Showrunner

The Foundation season 2 finale has finally confirmed what became increasingly evident all along: not only is Demerzel the power behind the Cleonic Dynasty’s throne, but she is the true heir to Empire. A series of flashbacks revealed that the original Cleon I fell in love with her while she was imprisoned by his father, eventually foregoing his own marriage to make her his queen — and choosing to clone himself in perpetuity so that his successors could be considered their children. Of course, this arrangement still did not mean freedom for Demerzel, and the sci-fi series has often seen her struggle with her programming because of it.
