Everything Bel-Air Changes About Carlton (& Why He’s Even More Hateable)

When Peacock’s reimagining of the iconic Fresh Prince of Bel-Air first premiered, one of the more noticeable changes was how different Carlton of Bel-Air was from his sitcom counterpart. A dramatic retelling of the original ’90s sitcom, Bel-Air follows a similar premise in that both shows are about a young Black teenager from West Philadelphia named Will Smith (Will Smith in Fresh Prince and Jabari Banks in Bel-Air) who moves to the Bel-Air neighborhood in Los Angeles, California to live with his wealthy extended family. But that is where the similarities end.
